About Backgammon online
Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the world: two players race fifteen checkers each around a board of 24 points and off the other side. Luck decides the dice, but skill decides almost everything else: when to run, when to build a blocking prime, when to hit a lone checker and when to play it safe. This 3D edition runs on a handsome wooden case with felt points, turned checkers and real tumbling dice, and every move is checked by our server so the full official rules always apply.
How to play Backgammon on Xons Play
- Roll the two dice. Each die is a separate move of that many points, and doubles give you four moves.
- Tap a checker to see where it can go, then tap a glowing destination.
- You cannot land on a point held by two or more enemy checkers. Landing on a single enemy checker hits it to the bar.
- Checkers on the bar must re-enter before you move anything else.
- Once all fifteen of your checkers are in your home board, bear them off. The first player to bear off all fifteen wins.
Tips & strategy
- Early on, making points in your home board is worth more than racing.
- Avoid leaving single checkers within six points of an enemy checker.
- Six blocking points in a row, a prime, cannot be passed at all.
- If you are far ahead in the race, stop hitting and simply run home.
